FAQs

Which Pollutants?

Solumar technology captures multiple pollutants combined – mechanical particles including Black carbon, ash, dust, sand, metal, wood, textile and any other types (ePM1 – coarse),  VOCs and Gases (CO, CO2, SOx, NOx).

Our solution makes it possible to separately capture valuable wasted materials, byproducts that you can return and reuse into your production or resell and benefit from the recuring revenue.

How the technology works?

The technology is based on R&D in Aviation. It combines the power of aero and fluid dynamics, water declustering, water atomization and low - energy plasma vortex.

Designed modular to optimize the CAPEX and OPEX, each module captures specific pollutants type, and each module complements the work of the other modules.

The first module captures all mechanical particles including Black carbon, ash, dust, sand, metal, wood, textile and any other types (ePM1 – coarse).

Applicable for inlet, outlet and circulate air.

Why Solumar is better than the alternatives?

Versus Maritime, Industrial scrubbers & Catalysts

Solumar’s unit provides:

  • High efficiency ranging between 92% and 99% of all pollutants combined
  • Smaller, one compact unit
  • With x 6-10 times lower CAPEX and OPEX
  • Only need water. In maritime – only seawater (no fresh water, no chemicals)
  • Closed loop, also recycles and reuse water
  • Any size scalable
  • Retrofittable to 100% of the current fleet size and ports’ equipment

Versus Maritime, Industrial scrubbers & Catalysts

Solumar’s unit provides:

  • x 15-20 times lower O&M cost
  • x 10-12 times lower energy consumption vs. thermal oxidation
  • x 9-30 times lower energy consumption vs. plasma odor mitigation
  • Potential to save $2 - 10m per premise annually
  • Potential to save $20-50m for ship owner and ports operators

Versus Grid filters (HEPA, EPA, Dust bags, Non-woven)

Solumar’s unit:

  • Does not have grid components inside, no expensive consumables to be purchased and replaced
  • Provides high efficiency (92-99%) for each of the multiple pollutants combined
  • x 10 times lower OPEX (fully automated, no clogging, no deposits inside)
  • Works efficiently in a wide range of air temperature range ( -40° C to +400° C)
  • Works efficiently in a wide range of air humidity range (0 – 100 RH)
How can precious waste materials be reused/resell?

Our solution makes it possible to separately capture valuable wasted materials, byproducts that you can return and reuse into your production or resell and benefit from the recuring revenue.

Capture and Reuse:

  • Chemical high-value powder
  • Pharmaceutical high-value powder
  • Metal, wood, textile particles
  • Combustible dust
  • Materials for recycling
  • Black carbon
  • CO2
  • Other

The working principle of the unit allows us to separate the waste and  valuable byproducts.
Think of it as a flow labyrinth which puts the material that you need in a separate compartment made available for future reuse/resell, while the rest (the waste) is disposed.

Resell some of the waste materials?

In Maritime (and some other industries) Solumar solution make it possible to turn the collected Black Carbon and CO2 into reusable Carbon powder.

Carbon powder is a byproduct of a high value, sold at $3,000/MT - highly demanded and used by carbon fiber manufacturers, tires, inks, graphene, LI-ion batteries, conductors, electronics, plastic production, cosmetics, and multiple other industries.

On some occasions, the CO2 is collected “as it is” without the need to be disintegrated into C (carbon) and 02, then the CO2 is reused or sold.

Clients using our technology benefit from selling the collected Carbon (and/or CO2) as byproducts and gain incremental recurring revenue.

What could be the recurring revenue from waste materials?

The unit is made of stainless steel, electro-coated stainless steel and kevlar, which is sustainable and durable, with a high performance in wide range of ambient temperature
(-40° C to +400° C), humidity (0 – 100 RH) and if needed ATEX requirements.

Fully recyclable after exploitation period.

What materials the unit is made of? Can it be ATEX?

The unit is made of stainless steel, electro-coated stainless steel and kevlar, which is sustainable and durable, with a high performance in wide range of ambient temperature
(-40° C to +400° C), humidity (0 – 100 RH) and if needed ATEX requirements.

Fully recyclable after exploitation period.

What is durability of the system?

The durability of the Solumar’s system is 25-30 years.

Solumar unit is fully recyclable after exploitation period.

How can the system be retrofitted to any equipment?

Solumar unit is designed by Aviation Engineers as one compact modular device where each component complements the work of other components. Like in aviation, every centimeter is optimized and every part falls in its exact place.

This is how the unit is 3-4 times smaller than alternatives solutions, or the modules of the unit could be easily reshaped and redesigned, to fit different layout configurations.

Usually there is no need for current equipment to be redesigned, and usually no change in the ambient layout is required. The unit is fully customized and delivered as Plug & Play.

The technology is any-size scalable since each component could be scaled to fit any nominal air flow range, and the working principle allows high capturing efficiency no matter how small or big is the unit.

Applicable for inlet, outlet and circulate air.

What is the Size of Solumar unit?

Solumar unit is designed by Aviation Engineers as one compact modular device where each component complements the work of other components.

For example, a unit, that services 16,000 m3/h is only H x L x W  2300 x 2900 x 2100 mm and only consumes 2.5 kW/h.

The dimensions of the unit do not increase proportionally to the increase of the nominal air flow that the unit services.

Why CAPEX and OPEX are low?

Low CAPEX comes from:

  • Customized solution, no cost for redesign existing systems and environment
  • One compact body
  • Modular

Low OPEX comes from:

  • No consumables
  • Low energy consumption
  • Low water consumption (recycles and reuse the inside water)
  • Low maintenance cost
  • Closed loop, fully automated
What is the energy consumption?

Solumar unit is designed to consume x 6-50 times less energy versus alternatives solutions, to save thousands, even millions in OPEX.

For example:

  • A unit, that captures PM and VOC, and services 16,000 m3/h only consumes 2.5 kW/h.
  • A unit, that captures VOC and Gases, and services 60,000 m3/h only consumes 9 kW/h.
  • A unit, that services, PM and Gases, and services 110,000 m3/h only consumes 35 kW/h.
  • A unit, that captures PM and services 240,000 m3/h only
    consumes 10 kW/h.
Stand-alone vs fully integrated options

Solumar unit is designed as either to be fully integrated to existing equipment or as a stand-alone unit to immediately capture pollutants from an open emitting source.

When fully integrated, the connection and integration parameters are tailored to meet specific needs and comply with any requirements for nominal air flow, pressure drop, gas temperature, humidity or else.

Stand-alone is usually asked for by clients who has emitting source with at very high intensity of pollutants (ex: welding, cutting) and at the same time the existing HVAC system is placed far from the emitting source. Thus, the pollutant is dispersed over the manufacturing premise area before being absorbed by the HVAC.

Type of water used? How much water is needed?

For Industrial purpose, Solumar unit only uses potable water, in Maritime – seawater only.Closed loop, the water is used multiple times.

For example:

  • in 16,000 m3/h unit, the water reservoir capacity is 250L , approximate water evaporation in 24h is 2-3L.
  • in 110,000 m3/h unit, the water reservoir capacity is  2,000L , approximate water evaporation in 24h is 20L.
  • in 240,000 m3/h unit, the water reservoir capacity is  5,000L , approximate water evaporation in 24h is 50L.
Can Solumar solution work efficiently without water?

Yes, if you are a client with no access to water, we will design “a Dry version” of the unit to efficiently capture your pollutant without the use of water.

Same applies if the pollutants should not be mixed with water like for example flour, glue, cement оr else.

The “Dry version” may involve a higher CAPEX as we will reach the same record high capturing efficiency being deprived of the opportunity to use water as a cleaning agent.

How do we monitor the unit and the quality of the outlet air?

Solumar unit is equipped with own sensors for air quality monitoring.

Touch screen (accessible by people working on-site) provides information about the status, each component - water pump, plasma etc., as well as the electrical consumption and other parameters.  If the unit is equipped with its own sensors to measure the outlet air quality, then it would be evident on the screen as well - the inlet pollution + the outlet pollution.

The software has been developed by Mitsubishi tech team, electronic components that we use - Schneider (Electronics).

P.S.  In some cases (where budget allows) we embed autonomous internet connection so that the unit could be monitored and controlled remotely no matter where from in the world.
